Le gouvernement japonais et la Banque Africaine de Développement ont signé un nouvel accord de 300 millions $, en appui à une assistance actuellement en cours, et qui a pour objectif de renforcer le secteur privé en Afrique. Ce nouveau financement porte à 1,5 milliard $ les engagements du Japon aux côté de la BAD, dans le cadre de ce programme.
« Le Japon est un partenaire stratégique pour la BAD et un acteur de poids du commerce avec l’Afrique. Votre soutien au secteur privé, le développement des infrastructures et du cofinancement, nous ont permis de décupler notre appui au secteur privé », a fait savoir Charles Boamah, un des vices président de l’institution multilatérale de financement.
Cette annonce intervient, alors que la BAD est actuellement en Inde, là où se tiennent ses rencontres annuelles, une occasion surtout de célébration et de renforcement les relations économiques entre l’Inde et l’Afrique, dans les domaines de l’agriculture notamment.
Tout comme l’Inde ou la Chine, l’Empire du soleil levant renforce ses positions en Afrique à travers des institutions comme la BAD, ou encore directement via des investissements directs étrangers. En 2016, lors de la conférence de Tokyo sur le développement de l’Afrique qui s’est tenue à Nairobi au Kenya, le Japon s’est engagé à injecter jusqu’à 3 milliards $ pour le développement du secteur privé africain.
