Suite à l’interdiction du territoire béninois à Stephen Blewett, DG de MTN Bénin S.A , des rumeurs de problèmes imminents pour le service Mobile Money circulent sur les réseaux sociaux. MTN Mobile Money a tenu à rassurer ses clients sur la sécurité de leurs fonds.
Devant les inquiétudes de plusieurs usagers de MTN Mobile Money concernant leurs dépôts, la structure a publié ce samedi 18 novembre un communiqué signé de son Directeur General Virgile TOFFODJI.
Ainsi l’opérateur rappelle que MTN Mobile Money Bénin SA est une société distincte dont « l’activité est réglementée et contrôlée par la BCEAO ». Ainsi « par décision n°355-11-2016 portant agrément de la société MTN Mobile Money Bénin SA, la Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO) nous a octroyé la licence d’émission de monnaie électronique sous l’identifiant EME.BJ.010/2016, le 10 Novembre 2016. » a souligné Virgile TOFFODJI dans le document.
Aussi « Nous venons donc par le présent communiqué, rassurer l’opinion publique, que les fonds de tous nos abonnés et partenaires MTN Mobile Money Bénin SA sont en sécurité et garantis. » a-t-il assuré. MTN Mobile Money Benin compte environ 1 million d’abonnés actifs .
Pour rappel, Stephen Blewett, le directeur général de la filiale de la société de télécommunication sud-africaine MTN au Bénin est sommé de quitter le pays au plus tard le 24 novembre 2017. Ce dernier est accusé d’avoir mené « des activités attentatoires à la sécurité et à l’ordre public » selon un arrêté du ministre béninois de l’intérieur et de la sécurité publique.
Cette décision intervient une semaine après l’ouverture, par l’Autorité de Régulation des Communications Electroniques et de la Poste, d’une procédure de sanction contre la société qui exploite le réseau MTN au Bénin.
