Access Bank Plc a conclu un accord avec Atlas Mara pour acquérir une participation majoritaire dans African Banking Corporation au Botswana, rapportent des sources proches du dossier ce lundi 19 avril. Le montant de la transaction n’a pas été dévoilé, mais la somme va comprendre une partie différée payable 24 mois après la clôture de cette opération. Un accord définitif est attendu au deuxième trimestre de l’année, sous réserve de l’approbation réglementaire des autorités compétentes.
Ainsi, Access Bank va acquérir plus de 78% des actions de la banque botswanaise, détenues par Atlas Mara, un groupe de services financiers basé aux îles Vierges britanniques. L’accord marque la deuxième transaction entre Atlas Mara et la plus grande banque du Nigéria, qui a accepté d’acheter sa filiale au Mozambique en septembre 2020. « Access Bank achètera une participation de 78,15% au capital de la banque au Botswana pour une contrepartie en espèces qui représente environ 1,13 fois la valeur comptable », a déclaré Atlas Mara.
Pour sa part, Access Bank a déclaré qu’elle procédait à l’acquisition de BancABC Botswana pour «consolider davantage» ses services bancaires de détail et d’entreprise, ainsi que pour soutenir le commerce et les paiements à travers l’Afrique australe.
La banque basée à Lagos a indiqué qu’elle envisageait de se développer dans huit nouveaux marchés africains pour cette année. Ceci en installant des bureaux dans certains pays, en s’associant avec des banques existantes dans certains pays ou en déployant des plateformes numériques pour fournir des services aux clients.
