Union Bank of Nigeria, un établissement bancaire basé à Lagos, et le Nigeria Incentive Based Risk Sharing System (Nirsal), viennent de lancer conjointement un plan de financement de 10 milliards de nairas (27,7 millions $) pour les agriculteurs et autres entreprises agroalimentaires du pays.
Le Nigeria Incentive Based Risk Sharing System (Nirsal) est une initiative publique-privée qui facilite le financement de projets agricoles. Pour Aliyu Abdulhameed, directeur général de Nirsal « ces financements permettront de créer des emplois massifs, de générer des devises grâce aux exportations et de garantir la sécurité alimentaire aux populations ».
En outre, « ces financements vont faire prospérer plusieurs chaines de valeurs agricoles. » a-t-il indiqué . « Nous pouvons générer 330 000 emplois directs, 1,5 million d’emplois indirects et cultiver 300 000 hectares de terres », a assuré Aliyu Abdulhameed .
Selon Emeka Emuwa, directeur général d’Union Bank, « les banques ont longtemps été réticentes à financer le secteur agricole au Nigéria.» . Or «c’est un secteur important qui a contribué à hauteur de 24 % dans le PIB du pays en 2016 », a-t-il indiqué .
Les crédits accordés dans le cadre de ce plan de financement d’UBN soutiendront la mécanisation agricole, l’approvisionnement en intrants, la transformation, et le stockage des productions.
