La Banque africaine de développement (BAD) a approuvé le décaissement de 3,9 millions de dollars (soit environ 2,3 milliards FCFA) au Libéria le 17 mars 2023, pour financer un projet de modernisation des infrastructures et du système de paiement du pays. L’objectif principal de ce décaissement est de renforcer l’écosystème de paiement libérien afin d’accroître l’efficacité et favoriser la croissance et l’innovation.
« La modernisation des infrastructures et des systèmes de paiement du Liberia pour améliorer l’efficacité des paiements renforcera non seulement le secteur financier formel, mais contribuera à une plus grande stabilité financière et à un meilleur développement du secteur privé » a déclaré Benedict Kanu, le chef de bureau pays de la banque africaine de développement au Libéra du pays.
Selon le communiqué de le BAD, le financement ciblera les systèmes de traitement automatisé des chèques et la chambre de compensation automatisée ainsi que les systèmes de règlement brut en temps réel qui constituent l’épine dorsale du traitement des paiements dans le secteur financier du pays.
Le projet contribuera également à accroître l’inclusion et à promouvoir l’intégration régionale grâce à des mises à niveau technologiques aux normes requises.
